Routers are a favorite of my power tools. A router is a perfect way of taking a completed project and transforming it into a masterpiece. You can add pretty much any info with a router and alter its look absolutely. As we know, when you start cutting into the wood routers take a lot of strength.
The Makita DRT50ZX4 router/laminate trimmer comes with a trimmer base that is a round base for smooth and quick cutting with an extended opening. A Brushless motor can produce a higher measure of torque per weight without brushes in order to create friction.
Trimmer round base for smooth and fast cutting and easy handling with a non-slip elastomer body grip for increased comfort. Enlarged opening section of base assembly for excellent bit visibility while maintaining durability.
As the tool industry cuts the cord on more products, tools like cordless routers really benefit from brushless motors. The Makita 18V LXT Brushless Router takes advantage of a Makita-built motor. With it, you’ll get better runtime than you do with a brushed motor, which also allows for more power to transfer from the battery to the motor.
Makita tends to do a pretty nice job in the ergonomics department and the grip on this model really stands out. A cordless router isn’t a tool that is hurt terribly by a few extra ounces in weight but having a solid, comfortable grip really helps with precision work. Makita does a nice job here.
Power and Performance
The first thing I noticed was how easy this router is to work with. I love the slim design but most importantly I love the soft start. The router is extremely powerful and even the piece of oak I tested it on, the router went through great. As far as run time, that will vary on the type of wood and size of router bit you are using.
Makita Cordless Router Review Features
Makita designed this with a brushless motor for efficiency and longer run times. The motor is electronically controlled to work with changes in torque and speed depending upon changing demands.
Changing the router bits is extremely easy. I didn’t find myself fighting with the router. The large red spindle stop is easy to control while trying to loosen or tighten a bit.
While I love the smoothness and power of the router, I really love how easy it is to control the depth and make micro-adjustments. The rack and pinion are very smooth and easy to fine-tune.
